the Island was torn down sometime last month by an unknown group of people. when we first discovered it, it was by finding a raft floating in the bayou. which was attached to a string. which pulled us across to the Island, where vagabonds would end up, because someone built this shack some time ago. at the time we visited, a traveler named Wes was staying there, creating fresh water from lake water and riding his bike penniless across the lower 48. there were swings and plans of building a treehouse, alligators and fishing and conversation. and i mean actual conversation, not the light, airheaded kind to pass time. and now, it’s gone. like it never existed. like some sort of garden of eden that i’ll never find my way back to.
